Mastering Menopause - Experience, Education and Empowerment

Amanda Hazen, co-founder of Creek Retreat, spoke at an event for the Women’s Network at Serenbe, focusing on a critical women’s health topic - Mastering Menopause. During her talk, Amanda shared how she mastered menopause, a journey she defined as Experience to Education to Empowerment. In the discussion, she highlighted the challenges she faced and the steps she took to educate herself on the most effective tools and resources available. Her story is one of transformation, underscoring the importance of self-discovery, self-advocacy and personal power, inspiring women to embrace autonomy and confidence in managing this significant life transition.

The following post recaps the highlights of her presentation, as well as the resources and modalities she uses at Creek Retreat’s wellness space.

Mastering Menopause 101:

  • Exercise Regularly - To maintain physical and mental health, Engage in moderate activities like weight lifting (3 sets, up to 5 reps), walking, yoga, or Pilates.
  • Eat a Clean, Balanced Diet - Focus on nutrient-dense foods rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, including plenty of fruits, vegetables, proteins, and healthy fats.
  • Hydrate - Drink plenty of clean water throughout the day to stay hydrated, aiding digestion, nutrient absorption, and temperature regulation. Proper hydration also improves energy levels, skin health, physical performance, and cognitive function.
  • Supplements/Nutrients - The reality is that with environmental factors, some foods may not yield full nutritional benefits. There are wonderful supplements out there, but know your sources.
  • Gut Health - Managing your gut microbiome and keeping it in balance can help hormones, and positively affect weight, libido, and mood.
  • Sleep Hygiene - Sleep is not a luxury, it’s essential! Maintain a regular sleep schedule, create a relaxing bedtime routine, and ensure a comfortable sleep environment.
  • Environmental - Reduce EMF exposure by getting outside, preferably early each morning, and look in the direction of the sun to reset your circadian rhythm.
  • Aesthetics - The use of treatments like red light therapy, hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HbOT), cold exposure/cryotherapy, and medications like Methylene Blue can all help combat dry skin, reduction in collagen production, and your tissue’s ability to carry oxygen.
